What do these countries have in common? - Canada, India, United States, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Switzerland
Canada is a federal state. That means that there are two different levels of government. Each level has different powers that allow that government to control certain areas. - Create a small group.
- In your group, think of all the different things that governments do. Make a list of all those things.
- Which of those things are necessary for the whole nation to run well?
- Which would be better left to the choices of the provinces or cities?
- Based on this, separate your big list into two smaller lists, one for the country, one for the provinces.
